Brain Stimulation to Fight Obesity: Breakthrough Findings
Prof. Livio Luzi and Italian researchers from San Donato Hospital conducted the first study worldwide, that applied Deep Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation to treat obesity, a global health emergency.
The study demonstrated the efficacy of brain stimulation, conducted for 5 weeks in accordance with a special modality invented by the San Donato scientific team, in reducing body weight up to 1 year period. This effect is possibly related to a modulation of the dopaminergic pathway and stimulation of physical activity by the brain stimulation waves.
More studies are now being planned to expand the evaluation of this potential breakthough therapy in more patients and hospitals.
