TMVR EARLY EXPERIENCE: FIRST SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

FIRST TMVR META-ANALYSIS SHOWS TECHNICAL SUCCESS, MR RESOLUTION, HIGH MID TERM COMPLICATIONS
7 September 2019

The team of Josep Rodes-Cabau reported the first systematic review on TMVR early experience, based on 16 articles or congress presentations with populations ranging from single case reports to 100 patients with the Tendyne valve. The article was published in JAHA in May 2019.

Despite the heterogeneity of the results, high rate of technically successful valve implantations and excellent hemodynamic results with a low rate of residual MR are reported, but procedure-related complications and midterm mortality remained high. Improvement of patient selection, further iterations of TMVR systems, and a gradual increase in use of the transfemoral–transeptal approach might be necessary before the widespread adoption of this technology as an alternative to conventional surgery.
